We all know that getting plenty of sleep is a key factor to looking your best! But along with our beauty sleep, we get a couple of deep facial wrinkles. As if that is not enough, the manner in which you sleep can influence greatly the appearance of wrinkles. Just like sleep leads to wrinkled bed sheets, it can cause wrinkles on the soft skin of our face. Hence, those lines are called sleep wrinkles and are almost unpreventable.
What causes Sleep Wrinkles?
In order to prevent those from happening, we need to learn what causes them. So, let`s think about the moment when you wake up. After sleeping in a certain position you wake up with a couple of lines strategically placed all over your face. This happens because of the pressure applied on that part of the skin. In younger days, these lines had the power to fade away almost instantly, but as we get older, sleep lines stick together more and more often.
Usually, this occurs because of the loss of collagen and elasticity we experience as we get older. Nevertheless, this is not the only reason why those lines appear on our face and body. We have a more realistic explanation that is related to our bed. Repetitive stretching, pressing and pulling on the skin while we sleep can leave permanent marks. This happens because of our pillowcase and bed sheets, for which we need to allow some extra cleaning time.
How to prevent sleep wrinkles?
There are different approaches that can help in diminishing or even eliminating sleep wrinkles, most of them being related to pillowcases. Here are some tips on how to minimise skin creases that you need to keep in mind.
- Regularly change your pillowcase. It is best to opt for cotton-silk pillowcases because your skin will slide on your pillow rather than rub on it. In other words, a silk pillowcase eliminates the wrinkle-inducing traction that other fabrics might cause.
- If you notice on daily basis the appearance of sleep wrinkles it is safe to assume that you need to change your pillow. You can opt for a feather pillow which is great with silk pillowcases. Those pillows are soft and prone to follow the contour of your face without causing extra pressure. Moreover, some stores sell special pillow that were designed to alleviate pressure when you sleep.
- It is always an option to sleep on your back. This solution will eliminate the pressure your face might experience during the night and you will wake feeling refreshed. But, if you cannot get a proper sleep by lying on your back, you might consider changing the pillow along with your pillowcase.
Always remember that in order to keep your face healthy and radiant you need to sleep 7 to 8 hours. The right amount of sleep is necessary in order to allow your body and skin to rest and regain its strength. Also, good dietary habits bring important nutrients which help our skin in staying healthy and good looking. Skin Creases are common nowadays, but they can be easily diminished by following the advices above.
